Technology Tools
Below is a list of technology resources that I use in my classroom. Please feel free to read each blurb below that describes what each resource offers and how we use it. Clicking on the image will direct you to each resource's homepage for you to explore!
Reading and Math Support
Raz-Kids is an engaging reading program that allows students to read books at their personalized reading level. As an incentive to promote reading, students earn different amounts of stars through different reading activities. Students answer questions about each book and, as a teacher, I am able to monitor what concepts they are mastering and struggling with.
Epic! is a reading program that offers over 35,000 different books. Students can read and listen to books based on their interests. As a teacher, I am able to create and assign comprehension quizzes that go along with our reading curriculum. The more a student reads, the more points he or she will receive, which encourages the student to read even more!
Literator is an app that helps keep track of my students' reading progress. This app allows me to quickly track reading behaviors and skills as I am reading with each student. Once a student is assigned a reading level, Literator shows prompts to promote reading comprehension. This is a free app that parents can use at home while they read with their child.
Khan Academy is a great resource to help strengthen students' math and science skills. I am able to assign different assignments to each student. These assignments are tailored to focus on concepts where students might need extra practice. Instructional videos and practice problems are available so that students can learn in and out of the classroom!
ABCya! is an educational game-based site for students. This program is linked to Common Core Standards to ensure students are learning while they play. Students stay engaged while learning content as well as essential computer skills.
Home to School Connection
Seesaw is a program that allows parents to see what their child is learning in school. Students complete many different activities that can include showing off new math concepts, reading to show expression, or sharing what they did over break! Each parent receives their student's personalized QR code that connects them to their work. Parents can like or comment on each activity.
Zoom is an online video/audio application. This allows teachers to hold meetings where they can communicate with students and families from different locations. Zoom allows teachers to work with large groups, smaller groups in multiple breakout sessions, or individual students. Teachers can share their screen, annotate lessons, and record lessons for their students.
Jamboard is an interactive application through Google Workplace where students can collectively share their ideas through writing and pictures. Students can collaboratively work together on a shared Jamboard or have their own individual Jamboard slide. Teachers can download and share each page with other students and families.
Teachers Pay Teachers is an online site where other teachers share resources. It is easy to search for different activities and supplemental materials to strengthen learning skills. Many activities are free, however, you may have to pay for some. It is a great resource to use at school or at home for extra support.
Social Skills Support
The Positivity Project helps students understand that #otherpeoplematter. Each week, we focus on a different character trait and discuss the importance of each trait. The project shows how these character traits can be found in ourselves and others. It also promotes positive psychology and forming good relationships with others.
